Below is a summary of UAWD’s Annual National Meeting on October 13, 2024.
UAWD members from Stellantis made a presentation on the Stellantis Keep Your Promise Campaign to demand that Stellantis follow through on the commitments Stellantis autoworkers won in their 2023 contract fight, including encouraging members to vote “Yes” to authorize a strike.
An omnibus motion to pass resolutions that received 80% or higher support among the 100 participants in the pre-meeting poll passed, which included the following resolutions: Promote the UAW’s Commemoration of May Day in Preparation for the May 1, 2028 General Strike and beyond, beginning in 2025, Plan for IEB Accountability, Contract Enforcement Campaign, Allocating a Budget for Local UAWD Chapters, UAWD Program for a Worker-led EV Transition, UAWD Strike and Political Perspectives, and Democracy Working Group.
Members at the Annual National Meeting voted to reverse the decision of the Steering Committee to reclassify two items, Improving Membership Access to UAWD Financial Reports and Membership Oversight of UAWD Donations, as bylaws amendments rather than resolutions. Both resolutions deal with how donations and finances of the UAWD are handled. Members voted to adopt both resolutions.
An amendment to the UAWD bylaws was adopted to clarify when a vacancy election and a regular election for Trustee, Member at Large and Retiree Representative occur concurrently.
Other resolutions that passed include: A Call for UAWD to Prioritize Bottom-up Organizing for a General Strike in 2028, Steering Committee Meeting Transparency, UAWD and UAW Labor for Palestine IEB Divestment Resolution, and Statement on Federal UAW Monitor. Resolutions also passed to unendorse IEB members Margaret Mock (here) and Rich Boyer (here).
Thank you to everyone who joined the Annual National Meeting!
